The Aporia
On October 7, Russia launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine, coinciding with President Vladimir Putin's 74th birthday. The attacks killed at least 15 civilians, including three children, and injured more than 40 people across Kyiv and 12 other regions. Ukrainian officials reported that over 130 drones and 48 cruise missiles were launched against Ukraine, targeting both military-industrial facilities and residential areas. Two people died in the capital, Kyiv, while four were killed in Pryluky and two in Poltava. President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned a day earlier of an impending "massive strike," but despite these warnings, Ukraine's air defense systems could not intercept all incoming missiles. The attacks further strained Kyiv’s defenses against Russia's advanced weaponry, underscoring the urgent need for more effective anti-missile systems.
