Brad Marchand, a forward for the Florida Panthers, sustained a left leg injury during the second period of their game against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. The incident occurred after Marchand took a stick to the face from Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke, causing him to twist and collide with the right post awkwardly, bending his left leg in an unnatural position. Marchand remained on the ice for several minutes before teammates helped him to the bench; he was unable to put weight on his injured leg and was subsequently taken off the ice.
Clarke received a four-minute double minor penalty for high-sticking. Despite losing Marchand early, the Panthers managed to win the game 2-1 in the third period thanks to a goal from Matthew Tkachuk, who also scored against the Kings' home opener. The victory was bolstered by contributions from other players like Sam Bennett, who assisted on Tkachuk’s goal and has been consistent with points recently.
The injury is concerning for Marchand, 38, who joined the Panthers in March 2025 after spending his first 16 seasons with the Boston Bruins, helping the team win their second consecutive Stanley Cup that year.
