Traces of pesticides have been found on fruit and vegetables sold at some of Australia's biggest supermarkets, sparking fresh concerns over food safety.

Pesticide Action Australia's (PAA) Residue Report 2026, published on Wednesday, tested 13 varieties of fruit and vegetables, including apples, bananas, lettuce, strawberries and potatoes.

Pesticide Action Australia criticised the APVMA in June after the regulator allowed the continued use of paraquat with restrictions, concluding that the weight of evidence did not show approved uses increased the risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
