The Aporia
On Tuesday morning at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), two planes collided on the runway: a Delta plane and an Air Canada jet. According to KTLA’s Rich Prickett, it appears that the winglet of the Delta aircraft hit the horizontal stabilizer of the parked Air Canada plane while taxiing from a gate. Jayson Lowe, CEO of Ascendant Financial Inc., who was on a different flight landing at LAX when the collision occurred, posted about seeing the impact firsthand.
Delta’s official statement confirmed that an Airbus A350-900 carrying 275 passengers and 15 crew members destined for Tokyo struck another aircraft with its left wingtip. No injuries were initially reported, but the extent of damage to both planes is still being assessed. The incident highlights potential issues with spatial awareness among flight crews on busy airport runways and taxiways.
