The Aporia
MLB and the Players Association have not yet officially agreed on the qualifying offer for the upcoming offseason, but a source told The New York Post it will increase from last season’s $22.03 million to approximately $23.1 million. This offer is based on the average salary of the 125 highest-paid players in MLB and can be extended to free agents once during their career. Teams must make their qualifying offers within five days after the World Series concludes, giving players ten days to accept or reject them. Players who accept become signed immediately, while those who reject it become free agents, with rejecting teams receiving draft pick compensation and signing teams losing picks based on their luxury tax and revenue-sharing status. The Yankees will need to decide if they want to offer this $23.1 million to players like David Bednar and Jazz Chisholm Jr., as part of strategic planning for next season.
