Campobello Island, New Brunswick’s only land connection to Canada involves crossing a bridge into Maine, followed by an 80-kilometer drive back through the state to reach the border at St. Stephen, N.B. Last Tuesday, U.S. border officials halted a truck carrying mail, milk, and approximately 1,000 bottles of alcohol destined for Campobello Island. The ban on Canadian liquor imports was part of an ongoing trade war initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. However, the New Brunswick Liquor Corporation (NBLC) announced Monday that deliveries have resumed to the island after seeking alternative delivery methods. U.S. Customs and Border Protection did not respond when asked if there had been a change in policy regarding Canadian liquor imports to Campobello Island.
A U.S. ban on Canadian liquor imports went into effect the same day as part of the ongoing trade war started by U.S. President Donald Trump.
