Nepal has ended its search and rescue efforts following a devastating flood in August that killed at least 1,455 people. Phanindra Paudel, chief of the National Emergency Operation Centre, announced on Monday that the country is transitioning from the search and rescue phase to rehabilitation. Dharam Raj Uprety, chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, stated that while active searches for bodies would cease, any remains or property discovered during the recovery process will still be retrieved. Authorities are also considering legal procedures to declare missing individuals deceased to facilitate insurance claims and other necessary formalities for their families.
