Monchiu, a female American Bully, died during a neutering surgery at a veterinary clinic on Friday due to complications under anesthesia. Her owners claimed that they undertook the procedure out of fear that if they didn't, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department's custody would be unavoidable. The dog had been reported multiple times since authorities increased enforcement checks on "fighting dogs", although her owners insisted she was obedient and posed no threat. Monchiu suffered from various health issues, including vision and hearing impairment, as well as skin problems. Her death has prompted her owners to question the authority's classification of American Bullies as "fighting dogs" in Hong Kong, where such breeds are strictly controlled.
Monchiu is a victim under the indiscriminate law enforcement of the department.
