Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was en route to Karachi from Hyderabad on Sunday after he voiced his determination to hold his planned rally despite alleged hurdles in his convoy’s journey.

The KP CM, accompanied by PTI’s provincial President Junaid Akbar, has been on a five-day public mobilisation campaign in Sindh for the party’s September 27 nationwide protest for the release of its founder Imran Khan and his immediate medical treatment at Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital.

“There are only two families ruling Pakistan – one from Sindh and the other from Punjab – but it was only PTI whose leader Imran Khan chose me, an ordinary worker, to be the KP CM,” he said, referring to the PPP and PML-N.
“Tomorrow another worker is to become chief minister from PTI,” he added.

He assailed Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her recent remarks regarding other provinces and demanded an apology from her.

“Please tell us who is right,” the KP CM said, addressing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general as he highlighted the military’s stance that India backed terrorist groups’ activities in Pakistan.

Accusing the Sharif family of tax evasion and having properties abroad, Afridi said, “These people were sincere neither in the past nor today and they will not be sincere tomorrow.”

Addressing the rally, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that his party had faced enough cases, contending that courts’ doors have been shut on it.

Karachi’s District East police, in a statement, said that “no public gatherings, rallies or processions will be allowed around Mazar-i-Quaid”, located at Shahrah-i-Quaideen, where the PTI has planned its rally.

“If any gathering is held despite the lack of permission, legal action will be taken in accordance with the law,” it warned.

Security arrangements at Mazar-i-Quaid had been “further strengthened in view of the current threat situation”, the police statement added, noting the deployment of additional police personnel.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Traffic Police detailed that some routes around Mazar-i-Quaid had been closed to vehicles.

As an alternative, traffic from Noorani Chowrangi was being diverted towards Khalid Bin Waleed Road, while traffic approaching Allah Wali Chowrangi was being diverted towards Tariq Road.

Shortly after 4pm, New MA Jinnah Road and the road near the Corridor-III parking plaza towards PP Chowrangi and Jail Chowrangi had been closed to traffic from both sides for security.

While thanking PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for welcoming him to Sindh on social media, Afridi alleged that hurdles were being created for his convoy.

“My message for Bilawal Bhutto is that obstructions are being raised in our way,” the KP CM said, affirming that people were still with PTI despite those hurdles.

In a video shared on X, CM Afridi said that it was “possible they might have created some hurdles in the way”, but the party convoy would defy them to reach Hyderabad, and then finally Karachi.

Thanking the people from Umerkot for their support yesterday, the PTI leader also asked the people of Hyderabad to be prepared for the PTI caravan.

In a statement, the PTI condemned the alleged blocking of its caravan travelling from Hyderabad to Karachi and also claimed its party workers in multiple cities of Sindh had been taken into custody.
