Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday to discuss the political and security situation in light of speculations about imminent governor’s rule being imposed in KP. The meeting, which included KP Inspector General of Police Zulfikar Hameed, focused on concerns over terrorists exploiting security vulnerabilities during a planned PTI march in Islamabad.
The two officials agreed that if deemed necessary by the president and prime minister to safeguard the province from terrorism and destruction, they would comply with constitutional requirements. They also expressed concern about growing unrest and the KP government's attitude towards counterterrorism measures, describing it as "enmity." Additionally, Naqvi and Kundi criticized the use of helicopters and other resources for the PTI march, stating that this was a "blatant violation" of an IHC verdict.
They agreed that whenever the president and the prime minister deemed it necessary to impose the governor’s rule or emergency to “save the province from terrorism and destruction, the Governor’s House will play a full constitutional role”.
The KP government’s attitude during the negotiations regarding counterterrorism actions was tantamount to ‘enmity’ toward the people and the province.
Mr Naqvi and Mr Kundi also termed the use of helicopters and other government resources by Afridi and the provincial ministers for the march as a “blatant violation” of the IHC verdict.
