The Aporia
For years, the American Psychological Association (APA) has faced accusations of antisemitism, described by Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) as a "persistent and pernicious pattern." In response to this issue, a bipartisan federal advisory committee to the U.S. Department of Education recently voted 7 to 4 to recommend suspending recognition of the APA's accrediting arm, known as the Commission on Accreditation (APA-CoA). The APA-CoA is currently responsible for accrediting over 1,320 professional education and training programs, spanning master’s, doctoral, internship, and postdoctoral residency levels in psychology. This accreditation body plays a crucial role in shaping standards and best practices within the field of psychology at a time when higher education credentials are under scrutiny.
