Nuit Blanche 2026, celebrating its 20th anniversary in Toronto, showcased over 70 art installations from local, national, and international artists across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) from 7 p.m. on Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Since its inception in 2006, Nuit Blanche has featured nearly 6,400 artists with more than 1,800 works of art displayed over the years. This year's theme was "Tomorrow’s Memories," honoring past contributors and communities that have shaped the event.
Key installations included Alexandra Gelis's interactive display "In Water, Together" at Nathan Phillips Square, featuring five electronic panels displaying flowing water scenes from various locations worldwide, such as Ontario, Argentina, and Alaska. Visitors could interact with these panels by moving in front of them to create dynamic effects reflecting their movements.
Several roads were closed for the event: Queen Street West between Bay Street and University Avenue; Bay Street between Hagerman Street and Richmond Street West; Elizabeth Street between Foster Place and Hagerman Street; Hagerman Street between Elizabeth Street and Bay Street; and Albert Street between James Street and Bay Street, while local traffic was allowed along York Street and Foster Place.
