Tropical Storm Nolo strengthened into a Category 3 Hurricane on October 2, 2026, in the remote Pacific Ocean, far west of Hawaii's main islands. By Saturday, its maximum sustained winds rapidly intensified to 115 mph (185 kph), making it a major hurricane. The storm was about 210 miles (335 kilometers) south-southwest of Maro Reef and moving westward at 17 mph (28 kph). A tropical storm warning was issued for the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, covering islands from Maro Reef to Lisianski Island due to expected large surf that could inundate low-lying areas. While no immediate threats were forecasted for populated islands, Nolo was predicted to cross the international date line by Sunday and weaken over the week following its peak strength on October 5–6 as a Category 4 storm with winds up to 132 mph and gusts reaching 161 mph.
