The Aporia
Lloyd Kembrey, a facilities manager at the University of Bristol, undertook extreme challenges to raise money for Jessie May, a children's hospice charity. His inspiration came from his twin cousins, Francesca and Josephine, who were diagnosed with Sanfilippo disease type A at age three-and-a-half and passed away in their teens. To honor them and support other families, Kembrey participated in daring feats like skydiving, bungee jumping, and more.
The BBC's The One Show invited Kembrey to London for an interview about his challenges. Instead of the expected interviewer, he was greeted by Tom Cruise, who wanted to personally thank him for his fundraising efforts. In a statement, Cruise said, "I’ve done a lot of wild things and stunts, but when I heard about Lloyd’s adventure, I just thought, ‘I’ve got to meet this guy.'"
Cruise also invited Kembrey to attend the royal film performance and world premiere of his new film Digger. The charity's former chief executive, Daniel Cheesman, praised Kembrey for raising funds that directly support children in need.
