The Aporia
A 15-year-old student from Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, Oregon, was charged with domestic terrorism and attempted murder on October 2 after mixing hazardous chemicals in the school cafeteria on September 8, causing a toxic gas release. The incident prompted an evacuation; seven students and staff received medical attention while the perpetrator was hospitalized critically due to inhaling fumes. He faces numerous charges, including 10 counts of attempted aggravated murder, first- and second-degree domestic terrorism, unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device, among others. District Attorney Nathan Vasquez emphasized the seriousness of the threat posed by school violence, suggesting that juvenile cases should potentially be moved to adult court to address public safety concerns. The student remains under inpatient care for mental health treatment.
