Kalie McCrystal, a 38-year-old Canadian lawyer and elite mountain athlete from Squamish, B.C., has been missing on the Matterhorn since September 1, when she was last seen at an altitude of approximately 3,830 meters. Search and rescue crews suspended their helicopter operations after a full day of aerial searches turned up no trace. A friend of McCrystal's, Duncan O'Regan, says the local mountain running community is holding out hope for her safe return and believes she has the skills and experience to complete the challenging climb. McCrystal was attempting to set the fastest known time on the Matterhorn via the Lion Ridge route when she went missing.
