The San Francisco 49ers have promoted veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks, 33, from their practice squad to the active roster. This move indicates he will likely make his debut this Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Cooks was signed by the 49ers last week after being waived by the New Orleans Saints and contributing to the Buffalo Bills' postseason run in 2025. He needs just 189 yards to reach 10,000 career receiving yards.
Cooks is filling the roster spot of KhaDarel Hodge, who was released due to a knee injury. The 49ers also signed back another receiver, Malik Turner, to their practice squad after he appeared in three games last season.
The promotion comes as the 49ers have suffered multiple injuries to wide receivers this year, with Cooks being called upon to fill an urgent need. Notably, veteran Mike Evans left a recent game due to a rib injury and is now among five receivers injured since training camp began.
