On September 8, a disturbing incident occurred in Santa Ana, California, where a woman allegedly lured her own nine-month-old pit bull mix named "Blackey" with food and ran over it with her minivan. The graphic surveillance footage shows the woman parking an older Honda Odyssey near 926 W. Park Ln and placing dog food under the vehicle to attract the puppy. As Blackey approached the food, she slowly drove forward, crushing the dog with her rear tire before pausing for about 15 seconds and driving away.
Residents reported finding the dead puppy in the street, prompting a weeks-long investigation by police who used Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to identify the suspect. Hahn Nguyen, a 75-year-old woman from Anaheim, was arrested on September 8 for animal cruelty and abandonment after admitting that Blackey was her dog.
The incident sparked outrage in the community with residents calling for harsh punishment for the perpetrator. Police released footage of the crime to help identify the suspect, leading to Nguyen's eventual arrest days later. The video has raised significant public concern over animal welfare and prompted calls for stricter enforcement against animal abuse.
