The Aporia
On Saturday, thousands of young people gathered for unsanctioned homecoming parties in Guelph, Ont., leading to widespread disruption and disorder. Videos circulating on social media showed partygoers throwing bottles, climbing buildings, and engaging in vandalism, with some footage showing police intervening in riot gear. The city's mayor, Cam Guthrie, described it as the "worst" such event ever, impacting neighborhoods and businesses and overwhelming Guelph General Hospital, which treated about 60 patients for injuries and intoxication. The University of Guelph president, Rene Van Acker, expressed disappointment and vowed to prevent similar incidents in the future, noting that property damage occurred and police made multiple arrests.
