The Aporia
Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín approved Paramount Skydance Entertainment's settlement with 12 states on September 27, allowing the company to proceed with its $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal had previously been approved by the U.S. Justice Department and numerous international regulatory bodies but faced opposition from California Attorney General Rob Bonta over concerns about reduced competition and journalistic independence. Under the settlement, Paramount Skydance agreed to release at least 30 films annually and establish an editorial board for CNN and CBS News. The merger is expected to close on October 6, creating a media giant with combined assets including HBO Max and Paramount+, as well as storied film studios Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures.
