Missing man found alive after 6-day search near Squamish, B.C.

A 43-year-old man, Stanislav Volo, who had been missing in the mountains near Squamish, British Columbia, for several days has been found alive. He went for a hike on Sunday above the Sea-to-Sky Gondola and did not return home, sparking a massive search effort involving multiple agencies. Volo's phone died when he got to the top of the mountain, and he was left without a way to communicate or navigate. He had to stay near a creek to get fresh water and eventually injured his foot while on the hike, forcing him to wait several cold nights for it to heal. Despite being without food and shelter for 5 nights, Volo survived by eating twigs and wildflowers, as well as some gummy bears he had with him. He was found on Friday evening on the Indian Arm Forest Service Road after descending the mountain under his own power, injured but alive. The search effort involved resources brought in from across BC, including search and rescue teams from Pemberton to Mission and Vancouver Island. Volo's experience has been described as "one of the most involved searches" in almost 20 years of search and rescue operations.
