The Aporia
On Tuesday night, Paul Cotter scored the game-winning goal 1:59 into overtime to help the Vancouver Canucks defeat the Edmonton Oilers 6-5 at Rogers Place. The Canucks' strong start included goals from Marco Rossi, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Max Sasson, and Elias Pettersson, who also had a three-goal run in the third period. Despite trailing 5-2 late, the Oilers’ Evan Bouchard scored three times, tying the game with 43 seconds left in regulation. Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen made 32 saves compared to Edmonton’s Tristan Jarry, who allowed six goals on just 17 shots. Prime Minister Mark Carney was present at the Oilers' home opener. Cotter, a free agent signing from New Jersey, became the first player in Canucks history to score both a short-handed goal and an overtime winner in his debut.
