The Aporia
Const. Elias Mouawad, a 25-year-old Toronto police officer, pleaded guilty to improperly searching an internal police database as part of the Project South investigation into organized crime and police corruption. The plea was entered on Monday at the Superior Court of Justice. Mouawad was one of seven active Toronto officers and one retired constable charged in connection with Project South, a probe described by York Regional Police detectives as the largest police corruption case in Canadian history. Mouawad's involvement came after he conducted an unauthorized license plate search for a former boss at a security company, which investigators had inadvertently discovered during their wiretaps on suspects. His guilty plea marks a significant development in uncovering misconduct within law enforcement.
