Federal regulators have launched an investigation into whether Tesla's new driverless taxis, known as Cybercabs, comply with federal safety standards. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is questioning whether Tesla fully followed rules when deploying its Cybercabs in Austin, Texas, which lack typical vehicle features like steering wheels and brake pedals. The investigation comes just one day after Elon Musk launched the service on Thursday with a launch event for invitees. Tesla's stock fell by more than 5% to $357.38 on Friday as a result of the news, reversing some of its gains from the previous day. The regulators will conduct an audit to examine Tesla's certification process and technical data, but it is unclear if the Cybercabs meet required standards.
