The Metropolitan Police have launched a new review into the unsolved 1999 murder of Jill Dando, a BBC Crimewatch presenter who was shot dead on her doorstep in Fulham, west London. The investigation is focusing on CCTV footage taken from Putney Bridge train station, about one mile away from the crime scene, where an unidentified man known as "Man X" was captured walking near the time of the murder.
In 2024, a facial comparison expert noted that Man X resembled Milorad Ulemek, a notorious Serbian assassin serving a 137-year prison sentence for Yugoslav war crimes. The Met Police is now using advanced CCTV enhancement technology to re-examine original footage in an attempt to identify Man X and determine if he was connected to the killing.
Despite these developments, the police caution that this review does not constitute a new investigation but rather part of ongoing inquiries into the case. Jill Dando’s murder remains unsolved after 27 years, one of the most high-profile cases in British history.
