Jérémie Letellier, president of the Fédération de l'UPA de la Montérégie, a regional branch of Quebec's largest agricultural federation, says the rail project would be disastrous for farming communities in Ontario and Quebec.

Caroline Des Rosiers, a spokesperson for Alto, says a more detailed route for the network's initial section between Ottawa and Montreal is expected in the fall.
“We're developing the project at a fast pace, it does not mean that we are going to skip steps,” she said.

Des Rosiers says from the start, Alto has made a commitment to limit the impacts on agricultural communities.

Des Rosiers adds that they plan to build overpasses and underpasses when possible, to prevent certain areas from being isolated.

Alto has also promised to ensure businesses that are affected are compensated fairly, looking at long-term impacts and consequences on farming operations, said Des Rosiers.

A first round of public consultations has already concluded, with meetings held in some parts of Ontario and Quebec, however none have been in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges territory, where Legault's farm is located.
