Mark Carney, Canada's Prime Minister, co-hosted an event with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The OceanEye International Alliance meeting aimed to foster collaboration for ocean observation and data sharing. Von der Leyen committed 100 million euros ($160 million) to support oceanic research, while Carney pledged a matching $82 million over five years. Both leaders highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing climate change challenges, particularly after U.S. President Donald Trump's criticisms of international organizations and global warming at the UN Assembly.
