The Aporia
The Aporia is an independent editorial project that collects news articles from 52 news sources (and growing). It analytically compares content from various publishers to draw connections and break down information to make the first look at a new topic clear.
Our goal is to help give you a straightforward first perspective on a new topic by giving you the information to do so rather than thinking for you. Our methodology is public and our mistakes are documented openly.

In September 2023, Cal State San Marcos reported four rapes on its campus within three weeks of the semester's start. The incidents occurred on September 5, 6, 13, and 18 at various locations including The Quad Residence Hall, University Village Apartments, and Black Oak Hall. Each victim knew their attacker, but no links between the perpetrators were found. The university issued campus safety alerts under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act to inform students of the threats. Female students are now arming themselves with pepper spray and forming groups for protection due to perceived inadequate measures by the school against sexual assaults during what is termed as the "Red Zone," a high-risk period when new students often experience their first incidents of campus life, including parties.
