Papua New Guinea police raided a three-bedroom property in Port Moresby on Tuesday morning and rescued 39 Indonesian nationals, who were allegedly being held against their will as part of a human-trafficking scheme. The victims, all men and women, had been recruited through social media with false job offers and forced to work online scams from computers in the living room. Police Commissioner David Manning stated that this was a “deeply disturbing” case involving a "complex people-smuggling enterprise." Four Chinese nationals were also arrested and are suspected of being part of a larger transnational human-trafficking syndicate operating between Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Deputy Police Commissioner Donald Yamasombi noted that more arrests are expected, indicating ongoing investigations into broader connections within this trafficking network.
