The Aporia
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre appointed Kevin Davis, the mayor of Brantford, as the party’s candidate for the upcoming byelection in Brantford-Brant South, bypassing a nomination contest. The seat became vacant when former MP Larry Brock resigned to return to his job as a Crown prosecutor on September 18. Local pastor Dave Carrol, who had hoped to run in the nomination race, was deeply disappointed by this decision after learning that he would not be able to compete for the position. Carrol also noted that he had the endorsement of former MP Phil McColeman. The Conservative party defended its choice by stating that Davis was overwhelmingly endorsed at Poilievre’s rally and was ready to start campaigning immediately, despite criticism from those who believe in traditional nomination processes.
