The Philippines plans to use drones as a force multiplier to boost its asymmetric defense capabilities. The Department of National Defence has proposed a budget of 50 billion pesos (US$810 million) for military modernization in 2027, a 25% increase from this year's budget. The funds will be used to acquire and integrate drone systems into the country's defense network. According to Defence Secretary Teodoro, the main challenge is not acquiring drones themselves but rather establishing the necessary connectivity and network capabilities to operate them effectively in real-time. He emphasized that security of connectivity is paramount, highlighting the need for a "system of systems" to support the drones. This initiative aims to enhance the country's defense capabilities, particularly against potential threats from neighboring countries.
