A tornado tore through a village in southwestern France on Monday, injuring 41 people and damaging hundreds of homes, including an estimated 300 homes in the village of Pomas with a population of 1,000. The tornado also caused power outages and disruptions to transportation, forcing the cancellation of a cycling race in the area. More than 120 emergency workers were deployed to the scene, and 15 of the injured were taken to a hospital. Storms across southern France affected several major cities, including Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse, and even Paris to the north. The tornado hit with winds reaching up to 73 miles per hour in nearby Arquettes-en-Val.
