Stephanie Cole, a renowned British actress known for her roles in Coronation Street, Waiting For God, and Open All Hours, died on March 18, 2023, at the age of 84. Her family confirmed that she had been battling Alzheimer's disease for several years prior to her passing.
Cole’s career spanned decades with memorable performances in various TV series such as Tenko, a prisoner-of-war drama about British women in Singapore during World War II, and Doc Martin, where she played the aunt of the titular character. She also won a British Comedy Award for her role in the 1990s sitcom Waiting For God.
Born in Solihull, Warwickshire, Cole trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and made her stage debut playing Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s *Blithe Spirit* when she was just 17 years old. She later reprised this role at age 63 in a West End revival.
In addition to her acting career, Cole is remembered for her dedication to mental health charities. The family kindly requested privacy during their time of mourning.
