The Aporia
Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old British national working as an auditor in Malawi, was kidnapped on September 11 at around 12:30 PM local time in Blantyre's Mount Pleasant area by four men in a grey Nissan Dualis. The UK Foreign Office confirmed it was aware of the incident and had been assisting local authorities.
Authorities offered a reward of more than $17,000 (£12,600) for information leading to her rescue. Six days later, on September 18, Malawi police rescued Osman in an operation involving gunfire where four suspected kidnappers were killed and one senior officer, Deputy Inspector General Noel Kayira, was injured but stable.
Osman is described as the mother of two children and had been working for a local auditing firm. Her brother confirmed she was "not too shaken" after her rescue and expressed gratitude towards Malawian police for their efforts. The motive behind her kidnapping remains unclear.
