The Aporia
On September 13, a Great Dane named by Revelstoke Search and Rescue (SAR) as an "angel," was rescued from Mount Macpherson near Revelstoke, B.C., after injuring its paw pads during a hike. The dog, weighing 120 pounds, could not be carried down the mountain by her owners due to exhaustion and worsening weather conditions. Temperatures were dropping rapidly, reaching freezing levels at nightfall, making it urgent for the dog's safety. Revelstoke SAR provided the Great Dane with what they described as a "first-class ride" using a wheeled stretcher, ensuring both the dog and its human companions returned safely by 1 AM on September 14. The provincial government typically does not reimburse non-human rescues, but this case was treated as an emergency due to the circumstances.
