The Aporia
Hong Kong shopping mall operators are using the Asian Games as an opportunity to boost foot traffic and tenant sales, following a similar strategy used during the FIFA World Cup this year. Retailers face stiff competition from Shenzhen, overseas shopping destinations, and online spending platforms. Sino Group, one of the leading landlords in Hong Kong, anticipates a significant rise in visitors across four of its malls during the Asian Games campaign. The company forecasts that selected merchants will see double-digit year-over-year sales growth. This strategy proved effective during the World Cup when foot traffic at three flagship Sino Group malls increased by about 10 to 15 percent compared to the previous year, and overall sales showed strong double-digit growth.
