Even Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass had words for the parents, saying in a pointed statement that she was 'disappointed' they had actively participated in the takeover.

Authorities estimated that around 70 people were cited in the crackdown, while roughly 70 minibikes were impounded, including Deleon and Leilani's.

Riders ranged from 13 to 50, with many of the adults being parents of the minors, police said.

But the department warned that being accompanied by an adult does not make it legal for anyone under 18 to ride small bikes on city streets.
