Eleanor Donaldson, the ex-wife of convicted former MP Jeffrey Donaldson, has applied to appeal against a trial of the facts verdict related to aiding and abetting her husband's sex crimes in Northern Ireland. The offenses, committed between 1985 and 2008, involved abuse of two women when they were children. Despite being found unfit to participate in a conventional trial due to mental health issues, a jury concluded that she had carried out the acts but could not find her guilty or imprison her. Jeffrey Donaldson was convicted earlier this year of 18 sex offenses, including one count of rape, and is also appealing his verdicts. Sentencing for both individuals will begin with submissions later in the month, after which Eleanor may face a treatment order or an absolute discharge.
