More than 100 people have died after an artisanal goldmine in Zamboye, Central African Republic, collapsed due to a landslide on Tuesday afternoon. The mine is located about 50km (31 miles) from the town of Baboua and near the border with Cameroon. A local prosecutor's statement confirmed that many others were trapped under the deluge, but it did not mention the number of fatalities. However, Red Cross volunteer Gervais Ganagoroh reported that over 100 bodies had been recovered, which was also confirmed by a senior official at a local mining association.
