Thousands still without power in Indiana more than a week after storm

Thousands of residents in northwest Indiana, particularly in Gary, are still without power nearly two weeks after a storm knocked out electricity on August 11. The outage has affected around 68,000 customers, with most of them living in Lake County beside the Illinois border. Northern Indiana Public Service Co. (NIPSCO) is responsible for restoring power, but it's not expected to be fully restored until Tuesday in some areas, including Gary. The prolonged blackout has caused hardships for residents, particularly those with medical conditions like 73-year-old Joetta Walker, who relies on a nebulizer that's useless without electricity. Mayor Eddie Melton spoke with President Donald Trump about the need for help and resources to restore power. The city's school district, which has around 4,300 students, is still closed due to the power outage.
