Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu addressed privacy concerns in Hong Kong's new "AI city brain" project during a Legislative Council (Legco) question and answer session. He assured that the system would not involve personal data, thus posing no privacy risks. The AI initiative aims to enhance visitor management during "golden week" holidays and improve interdepartmental collaboration in response to emergencies like extreme weather events.
Lee emphasized the need for AI education to prevent potential harms among young people, citing examples from overseas where adolescents became socially isolated due to over-reliance on technology. The proposed system would analyze data and provide early warnings and trend forecasts without compromising personal information.
