The Aporia
On Wednesday, an unstable six- to seven-storey apartment building collapsed in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City, killing at least 21 people, including 11 children, and trapping dozens more under the rubble. The collapse was due to damage from earlier Israeli strikes during the war. Rescue efforts were hampered by a lack of proper machinery; rescuers found at least 20 dead, with nearly 100 still trapped beneath the wreckage. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are living in about 2,000 damaged buildings across Gaza. The UN and Egypt's relief agency joined local efforts to help survivors and recover bodies.
The apartment building had previously been bombed by Israel, damaging its structural stability.
