The Aporia
China is considering pushing for a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) that would include all 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum during its hosting of an Apec summit in November. Even if China faces resistance from Washington, proposing such a trade agreement could enhance Beijing's reputation and create goodwill among other Pacific Rim nations by positioning the US as an obstacle to regional economic cooperation. Analysts predict that despite potential hurdles, China’s initiative would still be viewed favorably because it aims to reduce export costs across the region.
