The Recording Academy's description of the new category says it "recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop."

Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement emailed to CBC News that he is "saddened" to hear BTS chose not to participate, but that he understands and respects their decision.
