On November 4, 2026, an explosion at the Loveland Products chemical plant in Greenville, Mississippi, sent a large plume of black smoke into the sky. The incident occurred just after 7 a.m., prompting emergency personnel to respond immediately. Located about 120 miles northwest of Jackson, Greenville has a population of approximately 26,000 residents, mostly rural.
Initial reports from Sara Moreland Hester, a deputy emergency management director for Washington County and local firefighter, indicated no immediate injuries. By midday, the fire was extinguished, and firefighters were concluding their work at the scene. The explosion involved a fire associated with a herbicide chemical, according to preliminary information provided by plant officials.
Residents near the facility were instructed to shelter in place due to hazardous smoke but were later allowed to leave their homes around noon when the danger had subsided. Nutrien, Loveland Products' parent company based in Loveland, Colorado, stated that they collaborated with local first responders during the incident.
