Story summary

Adam Hamilton, a Democrat and megachurch pastor, has won Kansas's Senate race, becoming the first Democrat elected to the position in nearly 100 years since 1932. In the final days of the campaign, Republican Senator Roger Marshall faced backlash for claiming his opponent was "probably grooming children," while President Trump campaigned on behalf of Marshall. Polls had initially shown Hamilton gaining ground, prompting Republicans to shift resources towards defending Marshall's seat. Despite these efforts and Marshall's desperate tactics, Hamilton won with 51.9% of the vote, marking a significant political shift in traditionally conservative Kansas.

Why this leaning score
This article does not take a side on a contested political question, so it has no leaning score. That is an answer rather than a gap: a match report or a rescue can be warmly or critically written without being left or right, and scoring it anyway is how approval of a subject gets recorded as a political position.
