A Singaporean tourist named Lincoln Ng Jing Kai has been jailed for five years and nine months after he chased down and drove over Mark John Burnes, killing him in Perth, Australia. The incident occurred on May 24, 2024, when Ng's backpack was stolen from his rental car. He pursued the thief, knocked Burnes off his e-bike, and then ran him over with his vehicle. Initially charged with murder, Ng pleaded guilty to manslaughter in August 2026.
Judge Terence Palmer sentenced Ng at the Supreme Court of Western Australia on November 3, 2026, noting that Ng's actions involved "vigilantism" but did not intend to seriously harm Burnes and expected police intervention. The sentence is backdated to May 24, 2024, when Ng was first taken into custody, making him eligible for parole after serving three years and nine months.
