As of November 2, 2026, the Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo has surpassed 10,414 confirmed cases with a death toll reaching 5,372, giving it a reported case-fatality ratio of over 50%. This makes it the deadliest Ebola outbreak in the country's history. Health workers continue to face significant risks; on October 26, a nurse was killed and another health worker severely injured while responding to an Ebola alert in BUTEMBO, eastern Congo. The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain of the virus for which there is no approved vaccine or treatment. Additionally, violence against healthcare workers remains a major issue, with attacks including beatings and arson incidents reported throughout the outbreak's progression.
