The 2026 inaugural Northern Metropolis Marathon in Hong Kong faced criticism from participants who complained about hot conditions, uneven terrain, and insufficient water stations. Organized by the New Territories’ Heung Yee Kuk to celebrate its centenary, the event attracted around 15,000 registered runners across four race categories. Despite organizers' intentions to highlight regional development, runners pointed out logistical issues such as a post-race trek required to retrieve personal belongings.
