On November 2, 2026, New York State reported its first measles-linked child death in more than 30 years in Lewis County, marking a significant escalation in an ongoing outbreak. Governor Kathy Hochul had previously declared a State Disaster Emergency in October due to the widespread measles cases across parts of New York and neighboring states. The New York State Department of Health has offered resources to Lewis County for community outreach and vaccination efforts. As of November 2, there have been 178 confirmed measles cases in New York this year, with 15 cases reported in Lewis County alone.
